Breaking Free from the Status Quo: Empowering Women and Challenging Power Dynamics

The status quo. Just the mention of it can create stress and discomfort.

“The status quo” is that pervasive belief that things should remain as they have always been, with little room for questioning or challenging the norm. But for me, the status quo is not just stressful; it's a barrier to truth and authentic living and WILDLY unsustainable.

One aspect of the status quo that particularly strikes a chord with me is top-down leadership.

Sustainability...

In a recent Circle discussion, someone mentioned that they were working towards achieving sustainability for their business. This prompted another member asking what they meant by “sustainability” because they didn’t think they were in the “green” business.

So what do we mean we apply “sustainability” to our business?

It’s about the Triple Bottom Line.

Relationships in 2024

I don’t know about you, but I know that my relationships have taken a hit in the past 5 years.

As we move into 2024 - we are still trying to figure things out and still craving shared experiences and connection.

Gallup recently reported that “Nearly one in four people worldwide -- which translates into more than a billion people -- feel very or fairly lonely, according to a recent Meta-Gallup survey of more than 140 countries.”

So what’s the “cure”? Well, relationships.

Lessons Learned

In doing some reflection work last quarter, I was reviewing the following data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

  • 20% of new businesses fail during the first two years of being open

  • 45% during the first 5 years

  • 65% during the first 10 years

Only 25% of new businesses make it to 15 years or more.

The last statistic was the one I was trying confirm. Because (deep breath here) The BWC turns 15 this year! 🥳
